GAZPROM Lends Support to Pro Cycling Team RusVelo

Berlin, 4 February 2016: On 4 February 2016, GAZPROM and the professional cycling team RusVelo came together in Berlin to sign a sponsorship agreement.

The public joint stock company GAZPROM was represented at the signing by the subsidiary GAZPROM Germania. Vyacheslav Krupenkov, Senior Managing Director of GAZPROM Germania GmbH, and RusVelo general manager Renat Khamidulin officially put pen to paper at GAZPROM Germania’s offices in Berlin.

GAZPROM is now the main sponsor and namesake of the team, which will be known as Gazprom-RusVelo going forward.

“Having the support of a sponsor of this calibre opens up new perspectives and possibilities for our team. Gazprom-RusVelo represents part of the Russian national team and works closely with the Russian Cycling Federation, the Russian Ministry of Sport, and the Russian Olympic Committee to help Russian athletes prepare for world and European championships, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. With GAZPROM’s help, we’ll be able to tap into even more of our athletes’ potential in upcoming seasons and vie for the podium with the best pro riders in the world in the most prestigious competitions”, declared team manager Renat Khamidulin.

“We’re very excited to be supporting the RusVelo cycling team as its exclusive main sponsor and namesake this season”, added Vyacheslav Krupenkov. “In doing so, GAZPROM is continuing its strategy of contributing to major projects in international sport. This cooperation will enable us to not only establish the GAZPROM brand in a new area of athletics, but also raise its profile in markets in which we are engaged in end-customer business.”

Gazprom-RusVelo is a Russian cycling team based in Lugano, Switzerland. Upon its foundation in 2012, the squad received a licence to compete as a UCI Professional Continental Team. In 2015, Gazprom-RusVelo took sixth place in the Europe Tour Ranking of the international cycling federation UCI, cementing its status as one of the most successful teams in Europe. The team is planning to enter an array of competitions again this year, including the 99th edition of the world-renowned Giro d’Italia. The Italian tour is scheduled to start on 6 May in Apeldoorn (the Netherlands) and make its way to the finish line in Turin on 29 May.
