Potsdam Schloessernacht

GAZPROM Germania presented the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra at Sanssouci Park

The XII Potsdam Schloessernacht took place on 21 August 2010 at Sanssouci Park, the former summer residence of Prussian kings, which was beautifully illuminated for the annual trip back in history. As always, the night before the festival proper – with its concerts, dance performances, theatre performances, and literature readings from the Baroque era – commenced, there was an opening concert in front of the New Palace. This year, GAZPROM Germania was proud to present the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra from Moscow to ceremoniously open the Potsdam Schloessernacht 2010.

The open-air concert at Sanssouci Park was one of the highlights of Germany’s summer of concerts. Under the musical direction of head conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev, the world-renowned Tchaikovsky ensemble performed its interpretations of works by Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninoff and Peter Tchaikovsky on the eve of the festival. The audience was also treated to Nikolai Lugansky, one of the most promising up-and-coming Russian pianists, on the piano.

The Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra was celebrating its 80th jubilee during the 2009/2010 season. The virtuoso orchestra has been among the best orchestras in the world since its foundation in 1930. The tours the orchestra has embarked on have seen it play the most renowned concert halls of Europe, Japan, and the United States.

GAZPROM Germania’s sponsorship of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra is just another example of its contribution to German-Russian cultural exchange. We also offered young up-and-coming Russian soloists the opportunity to perform in Brandenburg’s capital city and increase their profiles. Support for up-and-coming talent is one of the focuses of GAZPROM Germania’s social commitment.
