GAZPROM Germania supported German-Kazakh partnership
As a German company with Russian roots, Berlin-based GAZPROM Germania GmbH is working to promote cultural exchange between Germany and Kazakhstan. GAZPROM Germania was supporting the Germany in Kazakhstan 2010 initiative in collaboration with the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kazakhstan by sponsoring the exhibition of German art and culture in Kazakhstan. By providing this sponsorship, GAZPROM Germania hopes to make a lasting contribution to German-Kazakh exchange and strengthen the relationship between the two nations.
In September 2008, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler, agreed to expand relations between Kazakhstan and Germany. In honour of the special partnership and the close relations between the German and Kazakh peoples over the years, the two heads of state announced a special programme of events for 2009 and 2010.
Following the success of the first year – “Kazakhstan in Germany 2009” – the German Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe Institute ran a programme of events under the “Germany in Kazakhstan 2010” mantle. The initiative’s second year saw Germany hold a variety of cultural, political, and business events and presented its diversity to the Kazakh public. “Germany in Kazakhstan 2010” portrayed Germany as a nation of culture, both by presenting contemporary art, music, and film and positioning itself as the home of Goethe and Schiller.
“Germany in Kazakhstan 2010” was ceremonially launched in the Kazakh capital Astana on 3 February 2010 by Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office Cornelia Pieper. Musical accompaniment was provided by Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, a German chamber orchestra, which helped open the “Modern Germany” touring exhibition that examined current German issues and featured photography of German landmarks and landscapes.
