GAZPROM Germania has opened its second natural gas filling station in Berlin in cooperation with the French oil company TOTAL. With the opening of the TOTAL Filling Station in Heidestrasse near Berlin's Main Station and the Tiergarten Tunnel in January, another gas pump has been successfully put into operation.
Approximately 12,000 kg of gas was sold at the new pump in its first weeks of operation alone, from the 12 January 2011 to the end of the month - as much fuel as many established Berlin petrol stations sell in an entire month. And as public awareness of the station grows, it is sure to become one of the top filling stations in the city – not least because of its central location.
Our company has been supporting the increased use of natural gas as a motor fuel for many years. As a shareholder in erdgas mobil and a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg initiative, “Das Erdgasfahrzeug e.V.” (Natural Gas Vehicle Association), we strive at both regional and national level towards greater market acceptance of natural gas as an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient motor fuel. GAZPROM Germania’s first natural gas pump was opened in 2006 at Berlin-Tegel.
“As a motor fuel, natural gas boasts several advantages - it is more environmentally-friendly and considerably less expensive than petrol and diesel. Natural gas powered cars produce 20% less CO2 than cars that run on petrol.” Burkhard Woelki, head of Corporate Communication at GAZPROM Germania, underlines.
